China Mobile collaborates with Yitofc Company to conduct multi-core fiber optic testing, pioneering the pilot line of four core fiber optic and seven core fiber optic with the same cable

Recently, Yitofc Company and the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Manufacturing and Application Technology of Optical Fiber and Optical Cable, together with China Mobile Design Institute and China Mobile Shandong Branch, laid a 17.6km long multi-core optical fiber pilot line in Jinan, Shandong Province. This line is the world's first existing network test of four core optical fiber and seven core optical fiber cable, the first domestic pilot line of four core optical fiber, and the first existing network pilot line of multi-core optical fiber of China Mobile. The laying of this line has played a demonstration role in the engineering application and promotion of multi-core optical fibers, and also demonstrated the deep accumulation and innovative ability of Yitofc Company in the field of space division multiplexing optical fiber transmission.

Leading the industrial application and promotion of multi-core optical fibers

In the pilot line, the attenuation of each channel of Changfei's 4-core and 7-core optical fibers is similar to that of ordinary single-mode optical fibers, and the capacity of single fibers is increased by 4 or 7 times compared to ordinary single-mode optical fibers. It has broad application prospects in high-density cabling scenarios with limited pipelines (such as submarine cables and data centers).

During the testing process, the project team conducted a full industry chain technical verification of multi-core optical fibers, including multi-core optical fibers, multi-core optical fiber cables, multi-core optical fiber fan in and fan out modules, and field construction multi-core fusion splicers and corresponding fusion splicing technologies. In addition, imported polarization maintaining fusion splicers and domestically produced multi-core optical fiber fusion splicers were also used for on-site fusion splicing of four core and seven core optical fibers in the line, demonstrating their engineering reliability.

It will be a long-term process for space division multiplexing communication technology, represented by multi-core fiber and few mode fiber, to become the mainstream choice in the industry. On the one hand, it is necessary to continuously improve the performance of space division multiplexing devices and formulate relevant standards as soon as possible; On the other hand, in order to achieve the highest efficiency of space division multiplexing, the industry should increase efforts to explore the application of space division multiplexing technology in different scenarios, in order to fully leverage its advantages.
